At Gifted Women, we are committed to being an anti-racist organisation. We recognise that racism creates additional barriers to employment for many of the women we support, and challenging these barriers is essential to our mission.
Racism exists in our communities and workplaces, creating obstacles that prevent talented women from accessing opportunities they deserve. We believe that addressing racism is not separate from our employment work – it’s central to it.
We also recognise that racism often combines with other forms of discrimination, creating multiple barriers for the women we work with.
Creating anti-racist spaces: We train our staff and volunteers in anti-racist practice and work to ensure our services feel safe and welcoming for women of all backgrounds.
Building diverse partnerships: We collaborate with organisations and individuals from different communities, ensuring women can access role models and opportunities that reflect Plymouth’s diversity.
Kaleidoscope: We run a monthly group providing dedicated space by and for women of colour, recognising the importance of peer support and shared experience.
Addressing practical barriers: We work to overcome racism-related obstacles to employment, from building confidence after discriminatory experiences to connecting women with inclusive employers.
If you’re a woman of colour considering our services:
We’re still learning and growing in this work. We welcome feedback and are committed to being transparent about our progress.
Actions matter more than words, and we’re focused on making real change in how we support women from all communities.
